I’ve been lucky to have two parents who are teachers. When I was younger and went to school that meant one week off during the fall, one week off during winter and about two months off during the summer. It resulted in many trips around Europe; skiing in the Alps in February, bathing and licking sun at Mallorca in June and lot more.
Places I've been:
Norway: On top of Norway hightest mountainGaldhøpiggen (2469 m), Besseggen, Bergen, Trondheim, Bodø (and a lot of other places)
Sweden: Stockholm, Jönköping, Gothenburg, Arvika
Denmark: Copenhagen, Ålborg, Århus, Billund
Germany: Hamburg, Cologne, Munich
Austria: Zell am See, Kaltenbach, Insbruck
Italy: Garda del Riviera (Lake Garda), Bibione, Madonna Di Campiglio
Spain: Mallorca
France: Chamonix
Switzerland: Nendas, Veyzonnas, Bellinzona
Belgium:
Luxembourg: Luxembourg
The Netherlands: Alkmaar, Amsterdam, Arnhem, Rotterdam, den Haag, Haarlem, Nijmegen.
England: London
Wales: Holyhead
Ireland: Dublin, Galway
Best vacation so far?
My vacation with Ellen to Stockholm in 07 was a great one. So was the two weeks vacation I had with my parents in '97. We were travelling around Europe.
First we went to Copenhagen, then through the north of Germany and into the Netherlands. Visited there Amsterdam and den Haag. Then we took the boat to England and was in London
for a few days. Then we visited my sister in Dublin and went with her to Galway. On our way home we took a ferry from Dover to Calais in France. Then we went to Belgium and stayed at a hotel in the south
of Belgium. We took the car on a evening trip to Luxembourg, just to eat. Our finale destination before we went back home was Hamburg.
But I think my best vacation was the two weeks vacation in Switzerland in '90(?). We stayed in a mouintan village called Veyzonnas. From that small town we took trips to different places. We went hiking in the mountains, skiing in a t-shirt and ate lovely raspberries at the mountain cafe,
visited a beautiful place called Saz Fe, bathing in a lake near Bellinzona - I think it was Locarno. I remember this trip with my parents and my sister was wonderful and it's such a great memory!
Dream vacation?
I'm not one of those who likes a one week vacation stranded on a beach getting a tan. I find that utterly boring. A day or two at the beach I don't mind, but let me be occupied with something else too.
I love museums, great architecture, designer stores, cosy cafe's etc. And if there is something interesting to shoot, I'll be there. So you can say I'm more into (big-)city vacations than beach vactations.
Dream destination?
There is a lot of places I really want to go and that is for instance Prague, Helsinki, Berlin, Barcelona and Paris. I've never been in those cities. And I would like to go back to Dublin and Stockholm. Stockholm I fell in love with in the summer of 07, when I visted the city for five days with my friend Ellen.
But my ultimate destination is the state of New Jersey and Asbury Park in special.
You wonder why? It's as cheesy as this; Bruce Springsteen grew up there and I want to see where he hung around in his early years as a mucisian and see all the places he writes about.
It would be really cool to visit the Stone Pony where Springsteen has played a lot and still visit occationally.
